NBA-SCHEDULE
Grizzlies host Warriors
UNDATED (AP) β Memphis has done what few teams were able to all season and now has gained the home-court edge.
The Grizzlies head into Game 3 of their Western Conference semifinals tonight at home against Golden State with the series tied at a game each. Memphis became just the third team to win on the Warriors’ home court this season with a victory in Game 2.
As the Wizards head into Game 3 of their Eastern Conference semifinal series against Atlanta, it’s not known if they’ll have John Wall available.
The team says the All-Star point guard has five non-displaced fractures in his left wrist and hand. Wall says his availability for Game 3 depends on whether his swelling and pain improve.
Wall was hurt in Game 1 of Washington’s Eastern Conference semifinal series against the Atlanta Hawks, but continued playing in the Wizards’ win. He sat out Game 2 as the Hawks evened the series.
He’s the NBA playoff leader with 12.5 assists per game.
The series is tied at a game each.
NHL-SCHEDULE
Canadiens facing elimination at home
MONTREAL (AP) β The Canadiens are back on their home ice tonight after staying alive in their NHL Eastern Conference semifinal series against Tampa Bay. Montreal will be facing elimination for the second straight game after a 6-2 win Thursday night in Tampa. The Lightning won the first three games of the series including the opening two in Montreal. Tampa Bay heads into tonight’s game with an 8-1 record against the Canadiens this season.
But Thursday night’s lopsided victory seemed to change Montreal’s mindset. As All-Star Canadiens defenseman P.K. Subban said, “The pressure’s on them now.”
HOCKEY-WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP
Canada earns quarterfinal berth
PRAGUE (AP) β Edmonton’s Jordan Eberle scored the go-ahead go in the third period to lead Canada to a 4-3 win over France at the ice hockey world championship. The Canadiens kept their perfect record intact and earned the first spot in the quarterfinals.
Dallas forward Tyler Seguin (SAY’-gihn) scored twice on power plays for Canada, which outshot France 43-21.
Canada tops Group A with 15 points from five games, followed by Sweden with 11 points, and the host Czech Republic with 10.
Russia crushed Belarus 7-0 to move into a tie with the United States for first place in Group B.
MLB-SCHEDULE
F. Robby back in D.C.
UNDATED (AP) β Doug Fister takes the mound for Washington against Julio Teheran of Atlanta as the Nationals and Braves play the middle game of their three-game weekend series in the nation’s capital. The Nationals are riding the hot power bat of Bryce Harper, who homered twice in last night’s 9-2 victory. He has five homers in his last two games.
Before today’s game, the Nationals are honoring Hall of Famer Frank Robinson, who was the team’s first manager when it arrived in D.C. from Montreal 10 years ago. Robinson managed the Expos-Nationals franchise for five seasons, ending with a 71-91 campaign in Washington in 2006.
That’s one of five afternoon games, but the other four are in the American League. At Yankee Stadium, the AL East-leading Yankees host the Orioles in the third game of their four-game set.
In other AL day games, Boston visits Toronto, the Kansas City Royals are at Detroit to take on Anabel Sanchez and the Tigers, and Cleveland hosts Minnesota.
Under the lights in the AL, Texas is at Tampa Bay, Houston is at the L.A. Angels, Oakland visits Seattle and the Cincinnati Reds play the White Sox in a day-night doubleheader after yesterday’s rainout in interleague play.
The National League’s night games have NL East-leader New York Mets at Philadelphia after the Phillies beat the Mets 3-1 last night behind Cole Hamels. Also, NL Central-leading St. Louis is at Pittsburgh, the Chicago Cubs visit Miller Park to play the Brewers, San Diego visits Arizona and Miami takes on Madison Bumgarner and the World Series champion San Francisco Giants.
The L.A. Dodgers are scheduled to send out 1-2 Clayton Kershaw against Colorado. But there’s snow in the forecast for Denver, and that game could be iffy.
