CHARLOTTE, NC — It’s been about 40 years in the making, but Charlotte’s outer loop will be complete next month.
The DOT says the final leg of I-485 in northeast Charlotte will open on Friday, June 5. The 5.7 mile stretch connects Old Statesville Road to I-85. The opening will complete the 67-mile loop.
Northeast Charlotte resident Eric Wagstrom says he chose where to live based on the interstate.
“My job is in Concord,” said Wagstrom. “I figure that anywhere that has good access to that particular freeway is going to limit my commutes to work every morning.”
The final section of I-485 was supposed to open earlier this year, but the weather held up the construction. If it’s not open by late July, the contractor faces fines.
