Race Festivities Underway in Concord

CONCORD, NC – Huge crowds are arriving for the first of two race weekends at Charlotte Motor Speedway. “It’s just really exciting! It’s just a fun event!” says Jordan Trantham.

She and her mother Stephanie are visiting from Michigan for the NASCAR Sprint All-Star Race. “We came down last year for it, for the first time. And we loved it! So we decided to come back again,” Trantham says.

They’re just two of many fans traveling hundreds of miles to be here.  According to the speedway, the May race weeks are expected to bring in $230 Million to the region, supporting 4200 jobs, with visitors from 15 foreign countries and all 50 states.

“It’s a huge economic benefit to the whole area,” says nearby business owner Curtis McCurry. He hopes to cash in on some of that.  This is his first race weekend since opening up CJ’s Pub six months ago.  He says last night’s crowd was overwhelming, something he hopes will continue.

“We’re excited about what’s gonna happen the next couple of weeks,” McCurry says.
