CHARLOTTE, NC — The budget for Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools could be in limbo until state lawmakers settle on a spending plan.
Superintendent Ann Clark presented the $428 million budget to County Commissioners Tuesday. It asks for about $40 million more than last year. Clark says a decision could hinge on how much money CMS gets from the state.
“It feels a little bit of a guessing game,” said Clark. “In terms of trying to apply your best thinking, in terms of what you should advance, what you think you can expect, versus what you’re unclear about.”
About $16 million in the budget would go to teacher and staff pay raises.
