Β CHARLOTTE, NC — We’re learning more about the new redevelopment plan for the old Eastland Mall site. Β It includes a K-8 magnet school and a major park on the 80-acre property, and possibly extending the Lynx Gold Line. Β City planners hope private developers will get involved for a mix of retail, residential and commercial space.

“All this put together, I think, sends a real good signal about the commitment to the city,” said Charlotte City Councilman John Autry (D).

“We want to make sure we get it right, and that will take a little bit of time,” said Mayor Pro-Tem Michael Barnes.

The city bought Eastland Mall for $13.2 million in 2012, then paid to have it demolished. Β Plans for a movie studio on the property fell apart.
