Carowinds to Retire Wooden Coaster

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — On July 26 Thunder Road roller coaster at Carowinds will thrill it’s last guests.Β After close to 40,000,000 rides, the ride is being retired.

Originally named after the 1958 movie, Thunder Road, the ride features twin, parallel racing trains reaching speeds of up to 45 mph. Β 

The retiring will make room for future park growth which is part of a more than $50 million multi-year investment plan. Β 

Carowinds will announce special in park surprises and give-a-ways to celebrate the history of the ride in coming weeks. Β
