Police Keep Close Watch on Speed Street in Uptown

CHARLOTTE, NC – Uptown was packed Saturday night as fans celebrated the last night of Speed Street, ahead of Sunday’s Coca-Cola 600.

CMPD Deputy Chief Jeff Estes says so far things have gone well. “We have a pretty good plan in place, and so far, no injuries, and the event’s gone off without a hitch,” Estes says.

The three-day festival has been declared an extraordinary event, which means police have more tools to keep people safe.  We saw several cops on bikes and on foot, up and down Tryon street.

“Just make sure that they’re watching people. To make sure that nobody’s carrying anything dangerous, behaving themselves,” Estes explains.
