Residents Given Week Notice to Vacate University City Apartments

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — People who live at an apartment complex in University City have one week to move out.

WCCB Charlotte was the first to report concerns at the Circle University City Apartments earlier this year. In February, aΒ floor caved in causing damage to the ceiling below. On Tuesday, the management sent an email to residents about modifications that needed to be made to the buildings due to concerns with the prefabricated floor trusses.Β

The email also said residents have until 12 p.m. on Tuesday, June 2 to move out. They expect to reopen the buildings before the start of the fall season. We have reached out to the complex managers and have not heard back.

Dear Resident of Circle University City,

As previously reported, a unit at the community suffered floor damage, which also created cosmetic issues in the ceiling of the unit directly below.Β  As a result of this, we conducted an investigation of all buildings and determined that certain modifications are warrantedΒ throughout the community because ofΒ suspected concerns with the prefabricated floor trusses.Β  Please be assured the Circle University City community is constructed to building code standards.Β  We have worked with a forensic engineering firm to verify that no safety issues exist.Β  We have made the determination to proceed with these modifications out of an abundance of caution.

To expeditiously make the needed modifications, we will unfortunately need all units to be vacated byΒ 12 NOONΒ ONΒ TUESDAY, JUNE 2.Β  We expect the modifications to be complete before the start of the fall semester.Β  We recognize this will be an inconvenience, and as a result we will support you through this process.

Residents who areΒ notΒ renewing their lease for the fall semesterΒ will receive a $500 move-out inconvenience fee in the form of a gift card andΒ will be released from the remaining two months of their lease.

For residents who have renewed their lease and will continue with us in the fall semester, we will provide assistance moving to another local location or provide accommodations at a local hotel (double occupancy required).Β  You will also receive a $500 move-out inconvenience fee plus a $140/week stipend to help defray related expenses as a result of the temporary relocation.Β  You will not be responsible for paying your rent during the time of the relocation.Β  In addition:

  • We can provide local storage facilities for your belongings
  • A shuttle to/from hotel to University will be available (if needed)
  • For those students attending summer school, free parking can be provided at UNCC

All residents will need to move-out byΒ 12 noonΒ onΒ Tuesday, June 2.Β  We expect the modifications to be complete before the start of the fall semester.

We regret this inconvenience and assure you that we will be working as quickly as possible to resolve this matter.Β

Please drop off your keys and pick up your gift card at the leasing office anytime betweenΒ 8am and 8pm.Β  For additional questions please call us atΒ 1-(800) 610-8312Β or stop by the leasing office.

Sincerely,

Circle University City
