CHARLOTTE, NC — About 50 local immigrants are now American citizens.

Congressman Robert Pittenger helped welcome the men and women during a naturalization ceremony at the federal courthouse in Uptown Friday.  Pittenger says it’s important to take time to celebrate those who gain U.S. citizenship the right way.

“They’ve gone through our naturalization process,” said Pittenger.  “They’ve gone through the tremendous rigor and what they’ve had to learn and study and apply to know our laws.  So I’m grateful for them.”

The new citizens came from more than 30 different countries.
