Student Uses Senior Project To Remember Murdered Counselor

Β NEWTON, NC — Students are working on a new way to remember a beloved high school counselor. Β It’s been almost a year since Maggie Daniels was brutally murdered in Newton.

Destinee Carpenter is using her senior project to build a garden outside Discovery High School in her memory. Β The school is just steps away from the apartment where she was killed.

“Future generations will always know who she was and how amazing she was and how she had such a good, amazing impact on everyone,” said Carpenter.

Sharman Odom is charged with first degree kidnapping, rape and murder in Daniel’s death. Β He faces the death penalty if convicted.
