Β CHARLOTTE, NC — Mecklenburg County Sheriff’s deputies honored former teenage inmates Wednesday who turned their lives around and are graduating from high school.

The graduation celebration was held at First Baptist Church. Β The teens took classes and prevention programs in jail to develop life skills to become a productive part of society.

“It kept me out of a lot of trouble as far as, you know, staying on track and focusing on what I need to do, because I was into a lot of stuff out here before I really got involved with it,” said graduate Charles Rorie.

Mecklenburg County has the only high school in a jail setting in North Carolina.
