CHARLOTTE, NC — Mecklenburg County Sheriff’s deputies honored former teenage inmates Wednesday who turned their lives around and are graduating from high school.
The graduation celebration was held at First Baptist Church. The teens took classes and prevention programs in jail to develop life skills to become a productive part of society.
“It kept me out of a lot of trouble as far as, you know, staying on track and focusing on what I need to do, because I was into a lot of stuff out here before I really got involved with it,” said graduate Charles Rorie.
Mecklenburg County has the only high school in a jail setting in North Carolina.
