LANCASTER, S.C. — Two deputies are on paid administrative leave after one of the deputies shot and killed a man in Lancaster.

The Lancaster County Sheriff says they got a call around 2:15 Thursday afternoon about Darrell Morgan, who was inside a business called Carolina Corner on Highway 521 with a gun. Β

Deputies arrived on scene nine minutes later. Β They say when they got there, 60-year-old Morgan was hostile.

“When the officers went to the building, they were confronted by an armed person inside the building who clearly posed a threat to the officers and other civilians inside the business,” said Lancaster County Sheriff Barry Faile. Β “Shots were fired to eliminate the threat.”

Morgan was taken to Springs Hospital where he later died. Β We’re told that while only one deputy fired shots, two deputies are on paid administrative leave as the investigation continues.
