SHELBY, N.C.– A man died in a three car accident in Shelby Saturday afternoon.
Police say 59-year-old George “Jay” Allen Mebane was driving east on Marion Street toward Highway 74 when he veered to the left and drove into the intersection hitting a stopped tractor trailer.
The impact caused the tractor trailer to slide to the left, hitting a vehicle in the next lane.
Mebane was pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver of the tractor trailer was taken to Cleveland Regional Medical Center. He was evaluated and released with no injuries.
The driver of the third vehicle was not injured.
No charges were filed and the cause of the accident is still under investigation.
