CHARLOTTE, NC — A Google news alert led a Charlotte company to help out another company with a similar name.

Giving Tree Realty donated more than $3,000 in toys and playground equipment Wednesday to replace items stolen from Giving Tree Child Development Center in Lake Wylie last month.  The realty company found out about the theft because it receives news alerts for stories with the words “giving tree”.

“They were squealing with delight,” said Lauri Barnette of Giving Tree Child Development.  “Which was great, that all these givers were able to see the happiness from the children.  But it will make a very big difference.”

The York County Sheriff’s Office is following up on leads about the suspects.  If you recognize the guys in the May 17th surveillance video above, call York County CrimeStoppers at 877-409-4321.
