WAXHAW, NC — A Union County deputy who shot a man during a domestic disturbance call remains on active duty.

Deputies were answering a call about a man chasing another man with a knife late Wednesday night.  It happened on Porter Drive in Waxhaw.  The Sheriff says the deputy ordered Kenneth Howie, III to drop the knife, but he would not.

“I heard the boy cussing and carrying on, all kind of foul language,” said neighbor Betty Melton.  “And then I heard Ken say ‘Don’t kill my son’.  And I heard them shoot.”

Howie has non-life-threatening injuries.  The State Bureau of Investigation is now handling the case.
