Kerr Putney Named New Chief Of Police

CHARLOTTE, NC– Charlotte City Manager Ron Carlee announced Kerr Putney as the new chief of police Monday.

β€œI am extremely proud to announce the first internal promotion to the position of CMPD police chief,” says City Manager Ron Carlee. β€œPutney has the desired characteristics we want in a police chief including strong leadership, listening skills, an understanding of diversity and the ability to build relationships with the community.Β  He will provide the continuity that is critical for building on the success of CMPD in protecting the life and property of people in our community and building highly effective police- community relations,” says Carlee.

Putney, became a member of Charlotte Mecklenberg Police Department’s, 109th recruit class in 1992 and was promoted to his current rank, Deputy Chief, in 2007.

Kerr Putney will succeed Rodney Monroe as current police chief effective July, 1 2015.
