Β CHARLOTTE, NC — Another company is bringing its high-speed Internet service to the Queen City. Β AT&T announced Monday that its fiber-based gigapower service is now available in Charlotte.

The service offers speeds up to one gigabit per second. Β To put that in perspective, you would be able to download an HD movie in about half a minute.

“Improving choice, and improving speeds and the quality of data access in the community has been a priority in this city,” said Mayor Dan Clodfelter (D).

The new service is expected to compete with Google, which announced in January that it would bring its high speed Internet to the Charlotte area. Β Google Fiber would offer speeds up to 100 times faster than basic broadband.
