Charlotte Residents Honor Those Lost In Charleston Shooting

Β CHARLOTTE, NC — People packed a prayer service in Uptown Charlotte Thursday night to honor the nine victims killed at Emanuel AME Church in Charleston, South Carolina.

Little Rock AME Zion Church hosted the service. Β NAACP and other Charlotte leaders spoke out on the shooting and led worshipers in song. Β Those gathered say it’s important to stand together and not cave to fear.

“It was a domestic terrorist attack, and that’s what they want, so we are going to come here, show support and serve God tonight,” said Charlotte resident Kahran Meyers.

“We all need to be praying for the nation and each other as a whole, and my hope that comes out of tonight is that we are one in the same and we all deserve to love and support each other,” said Ronald Sapke of Charlotte.

Mayor Dan Clodfelter was among those worshiping Thursday night.

The Mother Emanuel Hope Fund has been set up to help the victims of the families affected by the tragedy. The fund will be accepting checks made out to “Mother Emanuel Hope Fund” at the following address:
