Β CHARLOTTE, NC — The man who will take over as CMPD’s Chief of Police in two weeks is already answering questions from local civil rights leaders.

WCCB was there tonight as Kerr Putney met with the Charlotte NAACP. Β The meeting just wrapped up at Little Rock AME Zion Church in Uptown. Β A big topic is the trial of CMPD Officer Wes Kerrick which starts less than two weeks after Putney takes oath.

“We will continue to have conversations with him about how we can work collaboratively to make sure that our city is safe and that people are engaged in positive actions, not negative,” said Charlotte NAACP President Cornie Mack.

Putney was part of the immediate decision to charge Kerrick, and part of the planning to prepare for the contentious trial. Β Putney will take the oath of office next Monday.
