CHARLOTTE, NC – U.S. Secretary of Labor Thomas Perez is highlighting apprenticeship as a way to grow jobs.

The Secretary visited Ameritech in Mooresville Teusday along with U.S. Representatives Robert Pittenger and Virginia Foxx. They say they want to see more programs that provide similar on-the-job training.

“You get out in the field and you talk to job creators, and their secret to success for job creation here is apprenticeship. Apprenticeship is the other college, except without the debt,” said Perez.

“These types of programs that give training, on the job training, working with our community colleges, is the type of effort that can really help young people get started,” said Rep. Pittenger (R, NC).

Pittenger says the apprenticeship program in Mooresville shows the success that can come from private enterprises partnering with schools and community colleges.
