Police: ‘Violent Racist’ Written On Campus Portrait At Winthrop University

ROCK HILL,NC– Campus Police at Winthrop University are investigating vandalism of a Ben Tillman portrait located in the University’s Tillman Hall.

Reports say around 9:30am Thursday, an individual wrote “violent racist” in red paint on a portrait of the 84th Governor of South Carolina, Ben Tillman.

“Ben Tillman was an apparent racist, however, that fact does not justify vandalism,” says Daniel Mahony, President of Winthrop University.

Campus police are conducting an investigation on the incident and anyone found responsible will be held accountable, says Mahony.
