Β COLUMBIA, SC —Β People packed a funeral service Thursday in Columbia for the last of the nine victims of the Charleston shooting.
The Reverend Daniel Lee Simmons, Sr., remembered as a family man, devoted pastor and a former military man. Β His daughter delivered an emotional tribute.
“I knew him as ‘Daddy,'” said Rose Ann Simmons. Β “Iβve been told all my life that βYou are just like your daddyβ, and for a long time I did not want to admit that, but the older I get, I realize I am just like my Daddy.”
People have donated close to a million dollars to the families of the Charleston Nine. Β That includes a $100,000 donation from the Carolina Panthers. Β There’s also word that anonymous donors have given more than $3 million to establish a scholarship fund in the name of the church’s pastor, Reverend Clementa Pinckney. Β A non-profit corporation has been established to handle the fund.
