Providence High Alum, Shaffer, to Futures Game

CHARLOTTE, NCΒ (WCCB)Β — Providence High alum Richie Shaffer is on a fast track to the major leagues. He has been promoted from Double-A to Triple-A and has hit the ground running with the Durham Bulls–in Tampa Rays farm system.
Shaffer was selected to compete for the United States team in the MLBΒ Futures game. The game routinely selects players who have a bright future.
The Clemson alum will play in the game Sunday as part of a kick-off to MLB’s All Star Game Festivities in Cinnicinati. Additionally, Knights manager Joel Skinner was named a coach for the Futures game.
Shaffer hit two home runs, giving him 14 for the season, in Durham’s 10-8 win over Charlotte on Thursday night at BB&TΒ Ballpark.
