FBI: Dylann Roof Shouldn’t Have Been Able to Buy Gun

CHARLOTTE, NC – We’re learning new details about an FBI mistake that allowed admitted Charleston shooter Dylann Roof to buy the gun he used to kill nine people.

In February – Columbia, South Carolina police arrested Roof on a felony drug charge.Β Police say Roof admitted to having drugs.Β That should have automatically prevented him from getting a gun.

But because of a paperwork problem, the FBI examiner didn’t know where Roof was arrested or if he was convicted of the charge.

After three days of waiting for the background check, the gun shop legally sold him the gun, even though his status was still pending.
