Officers hit with debris in shooting near Uptown Charlotte

CHARLOTTE, N.C.– Two officers suffered minor injuries after being hit by debris at a shooting near Uptown Charlotte early Sunday morning.

At approximately 12:50 a.m., Charlotte Mecklenburg Police Sergeant Jeter was talking to Detective Rivers in the 300 block of East Morehead Street.  Rivers was off duty and not in uniform.

While they were talking, two men in an argument exited The Tavern.  During the argument, Ryan Breedlove pulled out a gun and fired a single shot into the ground.

He is charged with two counts of assault with a deadly weapon, assault on a law enforcement with a firearm, possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia and discharging a firearm in the city limits.

Sergeant Jeter and Detective Rivers both suffered minor injuries after being struck by debris from where Breedlove fired the gun into the ground.  Medic treated them at the scene and they were released.  The male involved in the argument was not injured.
