ROWAN COUNTY, N.C. — A man accused of robbing a bank at knife point was caught during a traffic stop Wednesday night. Investigators tell WCCB, 61-year-old Randy Asbury is now in the Davidson County Jail. He’s accused of robbing the NewBridge Bank on Highway 52 in Davidson County at knife point. After receiving the money, Asbury reportedly drove off in a stolen car but later crashed near a wooded area in East Spencer.
According to the Federal Bureau of Prisons, Asbury was released from a medium security facility in West Virginia in June and was supposed to report to a halfway house in Charlotte. Investigators say he never showed up.
In 2003, authorities say Asbury committed a similar bank robbery also in Davidson County.
