SAN JOSE, Calif. (AP) — Francisco Rivera intercepted a pass and scored in the 83rd minute, and Club America rallied to beat the San Jose Earthquakes 2-1 on Tuesday night.
Andres Andrade scored for Club America, which lost Dario Benedetto to a possible fractured ankle in the first half.
Clarence Goodson scored off a header for the Earthquakes in their first International Champions Cup match of the season in front of a split crowd at Avaya Stadium.
San Jose goalie Bryan Meredith, making a rare start in place of David Bingham, made several key saves until Club America scored both goals in a 7-minute span.
Tempers flared and players from both teams exchanged heated words throughout the match. San Jose’s Sanna Nyassi and Club America team captain Paolo Goltz received red cards for fighting.
