ATLANTA (AP) — Jake Arrieta pitched seven dominant innings and Jorge Soler homered to help the Chicago Cubs beat the Atlanta Braves 4-1 yesterday. Arrieta gave up three hits, three walks and struck out 10, throwing 73 of his 112 pitches for strikes. Over his last six starts, the right-hander is 5-0 with a 0.96 ERA.
ATLANTA (AP) — Braves first baseman Freddie Freeman feels better but still isn’t sure when he will return from a right wrist injury. Freeman, who missed his 26th straight game yesterday, said he took 30 swings without trying to hit a ball in the batting cage. He also played catch.
HAYWARD, Calif. (AP) — South Korea’s Si Woo Kim won the Stonebrae Classic yesterday for his first Web.com Tour title, birdieing the first hole of a playoff with Jamie Lovemark and Wes Roach. The 20-year-old Kim shot a 2-under 68 to match Lovemark and Roach at 12-under 268 at TPC Stonebrae.
