CHARLOTTE, NC — Charlotte’s Cops and Barbers program has worked to open an honest dialogue on police and race relations in the African-American community.  The community outreach effort is getting national recognition Thursday at the White House.

Representatives from CMPD and the North Carolina Local Barbershop Association will highlight the program during a summit for the President’s 21st Century Policing Task Force.

“It’s going to give us an opportunity to find, to listen to, what’s going on in other cities.   And give them a chance to find out what we’ve going on,” said local barber Shaun Corbett of Charlotte’s own Cops and Barbers program.  “But like I said, the biggest thing is that it’s just a group of people coming together to decide to make change in their respective cities.”

Representatives from 10 cities were invited to meet with Attorney General Loretta Lynch at the event.
