BERKSHIRE, England (AP) — Play has been suspended in the second round of the Senior British Open because of flooding. The first-round leaders, a group of eight players that includes defending champ Bernhard Langer (LAHN’-gur), Jeff Sluman (SLOO’-mihn), Lee Janzen and Miguel Angel Jimenez (AHN’-hehl hee-MEHN’-ehz), have not teed off yet.

KANSAS CITY (AP) — The newest member of the Houston Astros is on the mound tonight as Scott Kazmir gets the ball. A Houston-area native, Kazmir joined the club yesterday in a trade with Oakland. The Astros are in Kansas City for a weekend series with the Royals.

NEW YORK (AP) — Mets fans were teased with the prospect of a perfect game last night. Clayton Kershaw of the visiting Dodgers tossed perfection for six frames before settling for a three-hitter and a 3-0 win.

CLEVELAND (AP) — There was a minor trade in the NBA yesterday as Cleveland sent second-round pick Rakeem Christmas to the Pacers for a second-round selection in 2019. Christmas averaged 17.5 points and 9.1 rebounds as a senior at Syracuse and was the 36th overall pick in last month’s NBA draft.

NEW YORK (AP) — The pressure remains on FIFA (FEE’-fuh), the world-wide governing body of soccer, to clean up its act. Sponsor Visa Inc. is calling for an independent commission to be formed to clean up the game. The credit card company joined fellow sponsor Coca-Cola in calling for a commission of “impartial leaders” to ensure the reforms are credible.
