CHARLOTTE, NC — The lights are back on after a crash involving a CMPD officer knocked out power to more than 1,700 people in east Charlotte. It happened on Central Avenue at Club Road just before 5pm.
Police tell us the officer was chasing an erratic driver with his sirens activated when the driver suddenly stopped. The officer swerved to avoid an accident, but hit a utility pole instead.
“It was a really big pop,” said witness Venus Morales. “That’s what startled everyone inside, and that’s what made us all run outside to see the car against the post with the post on the hood of the car.”
The officer was not seriously injured.
