CHARLOTTE, NC — The deaths of nine people at a church in Charleston has led to an increase in police patrols around local houses of worship.  CMPD is holding a free church safety seminar on Friday.

Officers will talk about personal safety, building security and active shooter scenarios.

“The incident in Charleston obviously was something that inspired us to look at what we could do for our congregations here in Charlotte, so that was one of the main reasons,” said Deputy Chief Vicki Foster.
