CHARLOTTE, NC — Charlotte Area Transit officials say a subcontractor is responsible for digging a hole a man fell into near construction for the Blue Line Extension.

Firefighters rescued 39-year-old Harry Cadle after he got stuck in the seven foot hole a little after six o’clock this morning.  Investigators say he was helping a neighbor with yard work.  Crews later discovered four more uncovered holes.

“It was heart wrenching, to think that you could be stuck,” said northeast Charlotte resident Patty Clark.  “If he had, because a lot of times he’ll walk at night, and if he’d had got stuck at night, and nobody would have seen him until the early morning, it could have been a catastrophe.”

CATS officials say a crew with Badger Daylighting dug the holes as part of storm drain construction.  Those holes have now been filled.
