CHARLOTTE, NC —Β CharlotteΒ AreaΒ Transit officials say a subcontractor is responsible for digging a hole a man fell into near construction for theΒ BlueΒ LineΒ Extension.

Firefighters rescued 39-year-old HarryΒ Cadle after he got stuck in the seven foot hole a little afterΒ six o’clock this morning. Β Investigators say he was helping a neighbor with yard work.Β Β Crews later discovered four more uncovered holes.

“It was heart wrenching, to think that you could be stuck,” said northeast Charlotte resident Patty Clark. Β “If he had, because a lot of times he’ll walk at night, and if he’d had got stuck at night, and nobody would have seen him until the early morning, it could have been a catastrophe.”

CATS officials say a crew with Badger Daylighting dug the holes as part of storm drain construction. Β Those holes have now been filled.
