The Edgitators: Should Walter Palmer Face Charges?

Everyone is roaring about the man who officials say killed Cecil the Lion in Zimbabwe.  The story has unleashed a torrent of anger online.  Authorities say Walter Palmer, a dentist from Minnesota, lured the 13-year-old lion from a sanctuary and then shot it with a crossbow.  Officials say Cecil survived another 40 hours until the hunter and his guiedes found him and shot him to death.  Now Minnesota’s governor is weighing in.

“Just horrible.  I am just so disgusted with that man and to shoot any lion, but to lure a lion like that out of the reserve and shoot him.  How could anybody think that’s sport, just appalling,” said Gov. Mark Dayton (D).

Palmer says he relied on the expertise of local guides “to ensure a legal hunt” and that he didn’t know the collared lion was part of a study.  Two men involved in the hunt were arrested and released Wednesday on $1,000 bail.  They face poaching charges which could carry a 10-year prison sentence.
