CHARLOTTE, NC– Reports say a CMPD police officer has been arrested for DWI after getting in an accident in his police cruiser.
Around 9 a.m. Friday, police say they responded to an accident on North Tryon Street involving a police cruiser and a truck.
Authorities say the accident occurred after Officer Richard Andringa was driving his CMPD cruiser and struck the wheel of a truck.
No injuries were reported and only minor damage was done to the vehicles.
A CMPD supervisor was reportedly dispatched to the incident and Andringa was required to submit an alcohol and drug assessment.
Investigators say the assessment revealed that Officer Andringa was impaired during the collision with a blood alcohol level of .09.
Angringa has been placed on administrative leave according to authorities.
