LONG POND, Pa. (AP) — Matt Kenseth stretched his fuel and zipped past the fading leaders in the final laps yesterday to win the NASCAR Sprint Cup race at Pocono Raceway. The race came down to fuel and which cars had it. Joey Logano, Kyle Busch and Martin Truex Jr. were all inside the top five in the final five laps when they ran out of fuel.
SPARTANBURG, S.C. (AP) — The Carolina Panthers have waived injured wide receiver Stephen Hill after he suffered a torn right ACL in practice. Hill was injured Saturday when he attempted to catch a pass and landed awkwardly on his leg.
PHILADELPHIA (AP) — Jace Peterson had three hits, including a three-run home run, and Julio Teheran pitched seven strong innings to lead the Atlanta Braves to a 6-2 victory over the Philadelphia Phillies yesterday. Chris Johnson, Jonny Gomes and Ryan Lavarnway all had an RBI for the Braves.
ATLANTA (AP) — Candice Dupree scored a season-high 27 points and DeWanna Bonner had a steal and hit a pair of free throws in the final seconds to help the Phoenix Mercury hold off the Atlanta Dream 71-68 yesterday. Atlanta, after trailing by as many as 18 in the first half, pulled to 67-66 when Damiris Dantas made a layup with 42 seconds left.
