NEW YORK (AP) — The Mets and Nationals are in a virtual tie for the NL East lead after rookie Noah Syndergaard (SIHN’-dur-gahrd) tossed eight innings and New York homered three times in the third to beat Washington 5-2. Syndergaard struck out nine and gave up solo homers to Anthony Rendon and Yunel Escobar (EHS’-koh-bahr). Curtis Granderson, Daniel Murphy and Lucas Duda (DOO’-dah) went deep in the Mets’ five-run third, with Duda homering for the ninth time in his last eight games.

UNDATED (AP) — Andre Ethier (EE’-thee-ur) belted a two-run, walk-off homer in the 10th inning to give the Los Angeles Dodgers’ a 5-3 win over the Angels on Sunday. Ethier’s second homer of the afternoon gives the Dodgers a 2 ½-game lead over San Francisco in the NL West and leaves the Angels four games behind the AL West-leading Houston Astros. The Astros won for 10th time in 13 games as newcomer Carlos Gomez delivered a tiebreaking, two-run single and Evan Gattis added a solo homer in a 4-1 triumph over Arizona.

UNDATED (AP) — Cardinals newcomer Brandon Moss poked an RBI single in the bottom of the ninth to complete a 3-2 win over Colorado. Randal Grichuk (GRIH’-chihk) broke a scoreless tie with a two-run homer in the fifth inning of the Redbirds’ ninth victory in 12 games, which keeps the NL Central leads 5 ½ games ahead of Pittsburgh. Pirates starter Charlie Morton scattered five hits while striking out seven in seven innings of a 3-0 shutout of Cincinnati.

CHICAGO (AP) — The New York Yankees crushed the Chicago White Sox 12-3 to conclude a 6-4 road trip and expand their lead in the AL East to six games over Baltimore and Toronto. Jacoby Ellsbury hit a solo homer and had three RBIs, while Stephen Drew drove in four runs with a double and a triple. Mark Teixeira (the-SHEHR’-uh) also homered to back Ivan Nova, who limited the White Sox to a run and five hits while fanning seven in six innings.

TORONTO (AP) — Chris Colabello hit a two-run home run and R.A. Dickey threw seven shutout innings in Toronto’s 5-2 win over Kansas City. The Royals still lead the AL Central by eight games over Minnesota after losing to the Blue Jays for the third time in four games. The Twins were 4-1 losers to Seattle as Logan Morrison supplied the tiebreaking double in the 11th inning before scoring on Austin Jackson’s two-run single.
