WASHINGTON (AP) — The Washington Nationals acquired Max Scherzer in the off season to be their ace, and tonight he gets a chance to get things back in order for the Nats as they have lost four straight and 7 of 10. In doing so, they have dropped out of first place in the National League East. This evening they are playing host to Arizona.

PHILADELPHIA (AP) — Jimmy Rollins returns to Philadelphia’s Citizens Bank Park tonight for the first time since he was traded to the Dodgers in the off season. The 36-year old shortstop, who is the Phillies career hits leader, is hitting just .216 for the Dodgers with eight steals.

TOLEDO, Ohio (AP) — Minor league baseball has a new home run king. Mike Hessman of the Toledo Mud Hens, the top farm club of the Tigers, hit the 433rd home run of his career last night moving him past a man who played in the minors between 1918 and 1937. Hessman by the way has 14 home runs in 108 major league games for the Braves, Tigers and Mets.

KAZAN, Russia (AP) — The United States won gold and silver in women’s high diving at the world championships today in Russia. Rachelle Simpson is taking home the gold while defending champion Cesilie (SEHS’-ihl-ee) Carlton earned the silver. This is high diving’s second appearance at the world championships, after Carlton won in the 2013 debut in Barcelona, Spain.

DETROIT (AP) — Mel Farr was the NFL’s Offensive Rookie of the Year in 1967 playing for the Detroit Lions. In his seven year career with the Lions, the running back rushed for more than 3,000 yards. The team has announced that Farr has died at the age of 70.
