CHARLOTTE, NC — Connecting with residents and building trust: that’s CMPD’s goal as officers take part in National Night Out.  more than 100 local neighborhoods are hosting events.  We checked out the party in the Hidden Valley Neighborhood.

Lots of food, dancing and games.  Residents also met with police officers who patrol their area.  Charlotte’s Mayor, Mecklenburg county’s DA and the Police Chief were all there.

“This is the essence of what we’re trying to accomplish and what we’re all about, and this is the foundation of trust that we need in this organization to move us forward,” said Chief Kerr Putney.

Hidden Valley residents say their community is battling a bad crime reputation, so they need events like this.  they say increased police presence and neighborhood watch groups are making it safer.
