BELMONT, NC — One person is dead after witnesses say he ran into the back of a stopped tractor trailor on I-85.
Belmont Police, along with NCHP, are investigating a fatal accident this morning that occured around 8:30 Tuesday evening.
Witnesses say Clinton Bell, 87, was traveling in the inner lane when suddenly he swerved across three lanes to the right and struck the rear of a tractor trailer that was stopped due to mechanical issues.
The driver of the tractor trailer was not it the truck at the time of the accident and was not injured. There was also no other passengers in the car with Bell.
Investigators are working to determine what caused the fatal accident, and WCCB will have updates as they are made available.
