CHARLOTTE, NC — 300 dogs and cats found neglected at an animal shelter in Alabama. Now, a dozen dogs are getting help here in Charlotte.
The Humane Society has been caring for them since their rescue from the Lawrence County Animal Shelter on June 30th. They were suffering from neglect and numerous medical problems.
We’re told three dogs have been adopted; nine are still looking for homes.
“Healthwise, our concerns are a couple of them are heart worm positive and a few of them have skin problems like flea allergies,” said Humane Society VP of Operations Jorge Ortega. “But it’s nothing that can’t be treated and managed.”
The director of the shelter in Alabama is charged with 17 counts of animal cruelty. More than 200 of the dogs and cats were adopted in Alabama.
