RICHMOND, Va. (AP) — Washington Redskins coach Jay Gruden (GROO’-dehn) says wide receiver DeSean Jackson will miss 1-2 weeks after spraining a joint in his right shoulder during today’s practice. Gruden says Jackson landed on the shoulder after catching a pass during a joint workout with the Houston Texans. The speedy receiver missed time last season with a left shoulder injury but still caught 56 passes for 1,074 yards and six touchdowns.
AKRON, Ohio (AP) — Rory McIlroy posted two videos on Instagram that suggest he might be able to return for the PGA Championship at Whistling Straits next week. The world’s No. 1 player has not played since he finished fourth in the U.S. Open. He ruptured ligaments in his left ankle while playing soccer with friends in Northern Ireland the first weekend in July, forcing him to miss title defenses at the British Open and this week at the Bridgestone Invitational.
AKRON, Ohio (AP) — Danny Lee has a one-stroke lead over Graeme McDowell and Jim Furyk (FYOOR’-ihk) heading into the second round of the Bridgestone Invitational at Akron. Lee was one of just 21 players in the 77-man field go break par carding seven birdies for a 5-under 65. The major championship pairing of Jordan Spieth (speeth) and Zach Johnson produced two rounds of even-par 70 as the two prepare for next week’s PGA Championship at Whistling Straits.
SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — The Utah Jazz say point guard Dante Exum suffered a torn ACL while playing for the Australian National team this week. The 20-year-old was driving into the lane and came to a jump stop when his left knee buckled in a game against Slovenia. The fifth overall pick in the 2014 draft averaged 4.8 points and 2.4 assists for the Jazz last season.
BUFFALO, N.Y. (AP) — The NHL says it is “following developments” of a police investigation involving Chicago Blackhawks star Patrick Kane. The Blackhawks said they are in the process of gathering information and declined further comment. Neighbors of Kane’s off-season home in suburban Buffalo have told the Chicago Tribune that police arrived at his lakefront property Sunday night.
