Salisbury Police Investigate After Body Found in Driveway

SALISBURY, NC –Β Β Police are still searching for the person who shot a man and left him to die in a driveway.Β

Tom Stancil awoke to the sound of police knocking on his door around 5:00 Saturday morning. Β

“I looked over and they had the crime tape up and everything. And then, there was a body laying in the driveway there,” Stancil says.
Β
Police say someone shot 30-year-old Jonathan Dillard and left him outside the home on Park Avenue.
Β
Neighbors told police they heard what sounded like gunshots hours before Dillard was found.
Β
“Kids across the street been shooting off fireworks all week, so I though it was some more fireworks, so I didn’t pay no attention. I just went back to bed,” Stancil says.
Β
Neighbors tell WCCB they’re concerned.Β “Stuff like this happen every day… but it is concerning with the kids around though,” says one neighbor.
Β
Some told us they want to see more police patrols. Β One neighbor, who didn’t want to show his face on camera, says he doesn’t want to see anyone else get hurt.
Β
“We tired of it!…If they gotta stick undercovers out here, stick ’em out here. If there’s too much drugs in this neighborhood, close ’em down,” he says.
Β
For now, neighbors like Stancil say it leaves them nervous.Β “You never know when a stray bullet’s gonna go through a wall or a window or hit you or something. You never know,” he says.
