SALISBURY, NC – Police are still searching for the person who shot a man and left him to die in a driveway.
Tom Stancil awoke to the sound of police knocking on his door around 5:00 Saturday morning.
“I looked over and they had the crime tape up and everything. And then, there was a body laying in the driveway there,” Stancil says.
Police say someone shot 30-year-old Jonathan Dillard and left him outside the home on Park Avenue.
Neighbors told police they heard what sounded like gunshots hours before Dillard was found.
“Kids across the street been shooting off fireworks all week, so I though it was some more fireworks, so I didn’t pay no attention. I just went back to bed,” Stancil says.
Neighbors tell WCCB they’re concerned. “Stuff like this happen every day… but it is concerning with the kids around though,” says one neighbor.
Some told us they want to see more police patrols. One neighbor, who didn’t want to show his face on camera, says he doesn’t want to see anyone else get hurt.
“We tired of it!…If they gotta stick undercovers out here, stick ’em out here. If there’s too much drugs in this neighborhood, close ’em down,” he says.
For now, neighbors like Stancil say it leaves them nervous. “You never know when a stray bullet’s gonna go through a wall or a window or hit you or something. You never know,” he says.
