GASTONIA, NC – The State Bureau of Investigation is assisting Gaston County authorities in an investigation following a deadly officer-involved shooting,
Five people were shot, including two police officers, in Gastonia on Saturday night.
Gaston County Police said the officers were called to a home on Greenwood Drive in Gastonia at 9:18 p.m. in regard to a shooting.
“Officers responded to the scene and were confronted outside a residence by a suspect holding a shotgun and wearing a pistol,” the statement said.
Police say the suspect and officers exchanged gunfire. During the exchange, two officers were wounded and the suspect was killed.
Officers then found another victim who had been fatally shot at another location in the neighborhood.
Police say a third shooting victim was found at another home on the same street.
The names of the two officers are not being released.
