CHARLOTTE, NC —Β Tree limbs, cracking and crashing to the ground. Β Drought conditions in the area are certainly reeking havoc on Charlotte’s trees.
The hot and dry weather is dangerous. Β Arborist Patrick George with Heartwood Tree Service says the limbs are losing their water, and their flexibility, leading to some dangerous situations.
“It’s just hollow tubes,” says George. Β “They bend a little bit in the wind, and instead of bending they break. Β And so you see a lot of big limbs have been coming off for the last couple of weeks, in the middle of the day, with no wind. Β It’s a phenomenon known as summer limb drop.”
George says most trees in the area have shallow roots, and that soaking the area around the tree once a week can help keep it healthy.
