CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Police say they arrested a Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools’ police officer for fondling a minor.
Investigators say Officer William Stitt inappropriately touched and fondled a known victim on August 7th. Detectives say the victim in the case was not someone that Stitt would have come into contact with during the scope of his employee.
Stitt was arrested on Tuesday without incident. He has been charged with taking indecent liberties with a minor.
Stitt was hired as a CMS police officer on August 1, 2005. Due to the seriousness of the charges, officials say CMS has placed Stitt on paid administrative leave pending the outcome of the criminal charges.
Stitt is a former CMPD officer. He was hired by the department in 1977 and retired in 2005.
