MATTHEWS, NC — Some parents in Matthews are concerned a new project could make it difficult to get to their kids’ school. This week, the NC DOT Started work on what they’re calling a “super street”.
The project will extend the pavement at the intersection of Matthews-Township Parkway and Matthews-Mint Hill Road that’s near Butler High School. Officials say the work could disrupt school traffic when classes begin again.
“I think it’s rough they are going to be doing it during the school year,” said Matthews resident Julia Thompson. “I wonder why they didn’t do it the during summer when there’s not going to be a ton of people coming to pick up and drop off.”
State DOT officials say super-streets are a cost-effective way to improve congested intersections.
