CHARLOTTE, NC —Β 539 teacher assistants working for Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools could be out of a job. Β The General Assembly has yet to adopt a budget for 2015-16, leaving people’s livelihoods on the line, and school districts across the state without funding for many positions.
Without specific language in a continuous resolution from the state, CMS would not have the funding to pay those 539 TAs. Β CMS Board Chair Mary McCray calls the lack of action in Raleigh a serious situation.
“We have done our part, and now it’s time for the state legislatures to step up, stop the partisan politics,” she said. Β “Because this is affecting our schools, and we have got to get on about the business of making our North Carolina students shine once again.”
Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools is projected to add more than 2,400 new students this year. Β The first day of classes for CMS is Monday, August 24th.
