CHARLOTTE, NC — Crime is on the rise in the Queen City.  Friday, CMPD released it’s second quarter crime statistics.

Murders are up 40 percent since this time last year.  Violent crimes are also up by about 12 percent.  And car thefts are also on the rise increasing by about 32 percent.  CMPD says it is working hard on a strategy to crack down on crime.

“On Friday and Saturday night, we’re all in,” said Deputy Chief Jeff Estes.  “We have two big operations taking place in these specific areas to make sure we’re doing everything we can to stop this current robbery trend.”

While population and crimes have increased, the overall crime rate has been in decline since 2009.
