CHARLOTTE, NC — The frenzy surrounding the Panthers this preseason is at an all-time high. Panthers Nation has turned out in full force, setting records along the way. Training camp in Spartanburg, Fan Fest at the Bank; expectations are through the roof for the 2015 season.
Panthers fans love their team. And the team loves them right back. That love has been on display for all to see throughout this preseason.
“We had 55,000 as you well know for Fan Fest on Friday night here in Charlotte, but we’ve also had over 65,000 that have gone to training camp in Spartanburg,” says Panthers President Danny Morrison. “So some 120,000 people have watched training camp. It’s pretty special.”
The Panthers, and owner Jerry Richardson, make the fan experience a prime directive. And a little sustained success on the field doesn’t hurt either.
“We’ve seen some continued success,” says Panthers fan Ketan Patel. “We’ve seen back to back, you know, South Division titles, and we’ve gone to the playoffs. So I think fans naturally will progress to expect more.”
“For me it’s the draft, the new guys coming in,” says Panthers fan Jonathan Thompson. “A little bit of younger talent, stuff like that. Just how we did last year. Hopefully, finish better that last year.”
“Back to back South Division championships certainly help on that,” says Morrison. “And we also continue to try and improve the fan experience every year.”
Wofford College in Spartanburg, SC has become a getaway destination for Panther Nation, drawing fans from all over the Carolinas and across the country.
Morrison walks the fence line at training camp every day, asking fans two questions:
Where are you from? Have you been there before?
“One family came from Missouri, drove all night to come to training camp, and then they were going to turn around and go back right afterwards,” says Morrison.
The Panthers still have four days of training camp left, including two joint practices with the Miami Dolphins. There is still plenty of time to add to those record numbers this preseason.
